At DID, you’ll fuel your creativity, embrace design challenges, and push the boundaries of what’s possible within a space. Interior design in 2025 emphasises the exploration of sustainability through the lenses of Human-centric design which focuses on the health and well-being of the users.

The Common Core Curriculum (CCC) prepares you for a changing world with essential human and digital skills. Through its 10 modules, the CCC also provides a wide learning experience to examine local and global issues based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Foundations and Basics
Build a strong foundation in your first year while connecting with fellow students from the Diploma in Architecture and Diploma in Landscape Architecture. The Year 1 modules introduce ideation techniques and essential software to produce construction and presentation drawings, laying a strong foundation for tackling more complex projects in the future.

If you are creative, explorative, have an eye for design and are inspired by spaces, interior design is the right path for you. This course suits individuals who are detail-oriented, enjoy exploration and experimentation, and are keen on using new technology and critical thinking to design impactful, user-centred spaces that blend both technical and creative elements seamlessly.

What facilities does SP have to prepare me for the future in interior design?

At DID, you’ll learn in modern facilities that blend traditional craftsmanship with advanced digital tools. The Fabrication Workshop brings designs to life with hands-on model-making in various scales and materials.

You’ll use the latest software to create projects in the Design Studios. With advanced technologies like 3D printers and laser cutters in fabSTUDIO, and BIM stations and AR/VR at the Digital Building Innovation Centre (DBIC), you’ll turn concepts into reality while collaborating with peers and industry professionals across design disciplines.

What can I expect from my interior design internship?

SP offers 22-week internships at various organisations, including startups, SMEs, MNCs, and government agencies. Interior design students have interned at many design firms, including Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA), Andy Fisher Workshop Pte Ltd, DB & B Pte Ltd, FARM and WY-TO. These internships allow students to develop professional skills and expand their professional network and global perspectives for future career opportunities.

What is a good SP internship?

Internships offer valuable connections, industry insights, and job opportunities, shaping your career path with hands-on experience. Above that, SP provides coaching to boost your confidence and employability. Multiple internships across industries broaden your perspective, leading to higher starting salaries, business exposure, and professional growth through meaningful work, learning opportunities, and mentorship.

Can you get overseas exposure while studying interior design? 

Overseas exposure helps broaden your horizons. Understanding globalisation and working with diverse cultures is important in a global city like Singapore. DID students who participate in CCAs may also have opportunities to represent Singapore abroad and gain international experience.

What are my options after attaining my Diploma in Interior Design? 

After earning your Diploma in Interior Design, you can choose to further your education or begin your career.  

More than two-thirds of SP graduates go on to earn degrees at local and international universities, with SP diplomas recognised by over 150 universities worldwide. Many get more than a year of advanced standing. 

Alternatively, you can join the workforce at many companies such as Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA), Andy Fisher, DP Architects, Building Construction Authority, Asolidplan Pte Ltd, Design Bureau Pte Ltd, Kingsmen, SCA Design Pte Ltd. These options provide great opportunities to succeed in interior design.

Life after my Diploma in Interior Design

Which degrees are most common among interior design graduates of SP?

Many of our graduates have advanced their studies in interior design at prestigious institutions locally and abroad. Within Singapore, they have joined degree programmes at LASALLE College of Arts, Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA). Internationally, they've studied at universities like RMIT and UNSW in Australia, Goldsmiths and Central Saint Martins in the UK, and Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) and Pratt Institute in the US. Some have also transitioned to architectural degrees at top universities, including NUS and others overseas.

Students often choose to continue their studies in related or complementary fields. Here are some common degrees pursued by our alumni:

  2. Bachelor of Arts (BA)
  3. Bachelor of Architecture (BArch)

What other professional certifications are available for interior design?

Our students have an opportunity to join the Society of Interior Designers Singapore (Student Chapter), and be accredited under the Singapore Interior Design Accreditation Scheme.

How may I fast-track my education?

If you’re preparing for university and want to make the most of your diploma time, an SP diploma can let you fast-track your education by 0.5-2 years!

  • Module Exemptions & Advanced Standing — You can skip specific university modules at local and international universities.
  • Universities offering Advanced Standing:
    • Local: NUS, SIT, NAFA, and LASELLE College of Arts
    • International: Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), University of New South Wales (UNSW), Goldsmiths, Central Saint Martins, Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), and Pratt Institute.
