On 4 March 2024, 66 graduating students from the School of Computing embarked on a three-day overseas study trip to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. They visited two universities and five companies, located mainly in Cyberjaya and Mranti Technology Parks.
Students learned that Cyberview is an incubator hub that helps many entrepreneurs to start up from Cyberjaya. Impressed by Urban Farm Tech, a biotech start-up, Kaung Khant Min Thwin from Diploma in Applied AI and Analytics (DAAA) said,
“I particularly found the showcase of hydroponics very interesting. The farm leverages on Internet of Things (IoT) to measure the plants’ environment and control it remotely.”
In the same vicinity of Cyberview, students watched the drone demonstration presented by Drone Academy and visited Finexus, a Fintech company which enlightened the students by sharing insights on the skills and qualities required to thrive in the IT industry.
In Mranti Park, students were amazed by the food waste management solutions provided by Entomal BioTech. Gopinath Kavya from Diploma in information Technology (DIT) exclaimed,
“This revelation was mind-blowing! Etomal’s solution sparks a shift in my thinking. It offers a holistic view of tackling food waste challenge, inspiring me to delve deeper into this critical issue.”
Students also visited MakersLab in Mranti Park to appreciate the artwork produced with 3D-printers.
Students felt a sense of familiarity when they visited Multmedia University (MMU) in Cyberjaya and HELP University in Subang Bestari, Shah Alam. As summarized by Lucas Quek Yufeng from Diploma in Cybersecurity & Digital Forensics (DCDF),
“MMU has a large campus with numerous facilities that can facilitate learning outside the classroom, whereas HELP university has a lively student body which runs their own booths, selling food and clothes.”
This exciting trip provided our students with valuable exposure to the vibrant technology scene in Kuala Lumpur. It broadened their perspective on technology development and education opportunities in neighbouring countries.
