On 4th January 2025, Chemical Engineering students from Singapore Polytechnic (SP) and Temasek Polytechnic (TP) collaborated with Care Corner Singapore for a community service initiative. Through this event, students helped seniors in need by dusting, organising, and deep cleaning their homes. Many of these seniors live alone with limited support and physical challenges, making tasks like lifting heavy items and cleaning hard-to-reach areas especially difficult. Through the volunteers' efforts, they were able to create a more comfortable and hygienic living environment for the seniors.
Beyond cleaning, our student volunteers also engaged with the seniors through meaningful conversations, where they got to learn about one another's lives and challenges. These interactions cultivated a sense of connection and purpose, making the day not only about physical work, but also about emotional care and support to those in need.
The event provided a platform for SP and TP students to bond and build new friendships. Working together towards a common goal allowed them to connect and share experiences with each other. These new friendships made the day more fulfilling, fun and memorable for everyone.
Overall, through their combined efforts, not only did the SP and TP Chemical Engineering students leave a positive impact on the community, but they also got the chance to learn valuable life lessons and make new friends.
“Volunteering to clean houses has been a rewarding experience, especially seeing how happy people are when their homes are clean. It feels great to know that my effort can bring a smile to someone’s face. The experience has taught me that even small actions can make a big difference.”

"Helping out and giving back to the community through befriending senior citizens and helping to clean their homes has allowed me to deepen my understanding of the potential day-to-day problems our elderly generation may face and the assistance that they might require to help support them. Not to mention the new bonds made with peers from Temasek Polytechnic, this event was a huge eye-opening experience that was enjoyed by all!"
