The American Chemical Society Singapore Youth Challenge is a prestigious regional symposium that honours the achievements of students and early-career researchers in chemistry and related STEM fields. This event provides a platform for young scientists to showcase their innovative research and connect with peers and professionals in the industry.
At the 2025 edition of this event, Singapore Polytechnic students made a remarkable impact. As the only polytechnic institution to win awards, our Diploma in Applied Chemistry (DAPC) students proudly secured two of the ten coveted Best Poster Awards. These awards recognize the creativity, rigor, and scientific excellence demonstrated in their research projects.
(Second from left) Wilson Koh Wei Sheng, Poon Chen Yu John and Sim Ren Ci : Their poster, "Optimised Extraction for a Cost-Effective Kaempferia Galanga based massage oil: Enhancing Bioactive Compound Yield," emerged from an overseas sustainability innovation project which involved collaborating with ginger farmers to explore innovative ways to increase the value of their products.
(Second from left) Samuel Kwok: His poster, titled "Water retention capabilities of Swellable Cellulose-based Microgels for agriculture," is the result of his internship at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), where he conducted research with a local research group.
These accomplishments demonstrate the exceptional research skills and innovative approaches of our students.
