Alumna, Diploma in Nautical Studies
2024 DNS Gold Medallist
From a young age, I had always been fascinated by the sea, thanks to my grandfather, who was a marine engineer. When I learned about SP's Nautical Studies course, it felt like the perfect fit to pursue my passion. SP is the only polytechnic that offers this course, and that solidified my decision to join.
One of my favourite modules was "Introduction to Navigation." We had a holiday task to sketch out the Mercator chart, and although it was challenging, it was a memorable learning experience. Another highlight was taking boats out from Poly Marina as a class, where each of us got a chance to manoeuvre them, truly bringing our lessons to life.

My overseas internship onboard a vessel in the US was an unforgettable experience. Initially, living on a ship for five months was daunting, but it quickly became my second home. A huge part of my journey was also shaped by Capt. Peter Lee, whose guidance continues even after graduation, preparing us for our COC exams.
