Choosing to study Maritime Business at SP was a pivotal decision for me. Initially, I aspired to enter Junior College to study Economics, but after not achieving the necessary results, I sought alternatives. Among the five polytechnics, SP stood out to me for its rich history and reputation as the leading polytechnic in Singapore.
What I love most about my course is the practical experience it offers. My internship at Golden Stena Baycrest Tankers was transformative. Tasked with assessing demurrages incurred by charterers, I drew on my classroom knowledge of shipping operations. My lectures on ship operations and chartering provided the foundation I needed, enabling me to visualize how various stakeholders interact in the shipping industry. I also implemented Excel solutions to streamline data management in the claims department, which further solidified my passion for the maritime sector.
In addition to my studies, engaging with dedicated lecturers like Mr. Chew Cheah Boon made a significant impact. His real-life examples and supportive nature enhanced my learning experience.
