Enriching Overseas Immersion Programme to Hong Kong

Enriching overseas immersion programme

30 EEE and MAE students went for an overseas immersion programme to Hong Kong from 31 Mar to 5 Apr 2024 and it proved to be an eye-opening experience.

The students had the opportunity to access stuff that ordinary visitors to Hong Kong would not get, such as exploring a solar car team's operations, engaging the team to understand their projects and achievements, trying out the train and AR simulator at Kowloon Bay Depot Training Centre, touring the MTR Ho Tung Lau Depot and Data Studio. Besides gaining a better understanding of the technologies in depot operations and impact of leveraging data analysis on operational efficiency and reliability, the students put on their thinking caps to brainstorm and presented on the topic “Rail Sustainability”.

SP also signed an MOU with Hong Kong Vocational Training Council during the trip. This collaboration would facilitate explorations of further student exchange programmes or staff projects between the two organisations.

This is timely indeed. Ironically, the prevalence of globalisation has crystallised the imperative of collaboration on common issues affecting all countries such as climate change and sustainability. Overseas programmes such as this offer an opportune learning platform for students. Working together with overseas students on projects will equip them with the skills to bridge cultural divides and effectively articulate their ideas. They will also be able to hone their skillsets in addressing pressing issues from multi-disciplinary perspectives posed by the wicked problems of this era and beyond.
