A group of 10 Singapore Polytechnic (SP) students participated in the *SEMI university bootcamp, which was hosted by SEMI for SEMICON Southeast Asia from 22 to 25 May 2023 in Penang.
*SEMI is the global industry association representing the electronics manufacturing and design supply chain, connecting more than 2,500 members and 1.3 million professionals globally. Held at the Setia SPICE Convention Centre, SEMICON Southeast Asia 2023 is the largest conference of electronics suppliers in Southeast Asia, with over 250 exhibitors and more than 10,000 attendees.
The bootcamp experience consisting of workshop and talks was an eye-opener for the students, exposing them to the latest trends and technologies in the semiconductor industry and the global market. They were also able to learn from industry experts, gaining valuable insights and knowledge such as the “4 Masteries on leadership" that they can apply in their future endeavours.
A total of 12 teams consisting of 94 students from 11 IHLs from Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam participated in the bootcamp.
The 12 teams competed in the Instagram Video Challenge and Solutioning based on four themes: STEM Awareness, DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusivity, Belonging), Future of Electronics, and Sustainability.
SP students showcased their creativity and innovation in both challenges with clear and concise presentations on their ideas and teamwork skills while working with their peers from other countries.
The following awards were won by School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering (EEE) students:
Best Speaker: Samuel Ong Zi Yang
Best Team Performer: SP students in the winning team were Fu Sunshi and Chai Jia Zhi
Top 2 teams for the Instagram Video Challenge: 1st prize - Fu Sunshi and Chai Jia Zhi, 2nd Prize - Sim Zheng Da and Samuel Ong Zi Yang
Overall, the SEMI university bootcamp was a fruitful and enriching experience for our students, broadening their perspectives on the semiconductor industry and allowed them to develop new skills.
