On 13 March 2025, the students from the Diploma in Biomedical Science (DBS) course stepped into the spotlight at the annual Young Scientists’ Symposium (YSS). Jointly organised by the Singapore Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SSBMB) and the Singapore Science Centre, YSS is a prestigious event where budding polytechnic scientists showcase their research, exchange ideas, and network with like-minded peers.
The DBS students presented their research with confidence and passion—many for the first time beyond the classroom. Taking this brave step onto a professional scientific platform, they demonstrated both academic ability and growth as young researchers.
Congratulations to Joy Chan, Erika Lee, Lu Jing Xuan, and Ariel Tan Jie En, who each received a Merit Award for their outstanding poster presentations. Their hard work and ability to communicate complex ideas impressed both judges and attendees. Adding to the achievement, Joy Chan’s poster presentation resonated strongly with the judges, earning her a nomination for the Lightning Session—a mini oral presentation reserved for selected presenters. A remarkable recognition of the quality and relevance of her work!
Equally deserving of recognition is our oral presenter, Maximus Tan Han Jun, whose presentation was a standout moment at the symposium. His depth of research and confident delivery demonstrated scientific rigor and professionalism well beyond expectations. Maximus earned not only enthusiastic applause but also the genuine admiration of his peers and the research scientists in the audience.
