Charles Rudd Distinguished Global Lectures (CRDGL)

Charles Rudd Distinguished Global Lectures (CRDGL) on Tuesday, 11 February 2025.

As part of the World Engineering Day (WED) celebrations, The Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES) and Singapore Polytechnic partnered for the third consecutive year to organise the Charles Rudd Distinguished Global Lectures (CRDGL) on Tuesday, 11 February 2025, at the Singapore Polytechnic Convention Centre (SPCC).

With the theme “Towards a Sustainable World: Engineering the Way Forward,” WED 2025: CRDGL focused on two key areas: Circular Economy and Resilient Future. This theme highlights the vital role of engineering in advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In the afternoon, a series of breakout activities took place concurrently. The School of Architecture and the Built Environment hosted a “Building a Climate-Resilient Future: Sustainable Horizons for the Built Environment” seminar at LT18A. The built environment plays a crucial role in shaping sustainable, resilient communities. This seminar is designed to inspire and equip us to meet these challenges head-on, through multidisciplinary collaboration and cutting-edge solutions.

The seminar featured four distinguished speakers:

Mr. James Lam, Executive Director, Coastal Engineering and Management, Surbana Jurong

Mr. Chen WenJie, Associate Director, Climate Asia Pte Ltd

Dr. Tamilselvan Thangayah, Research and Development Director, Joe Green Pte Ltd

Mr. Rama Venkta, Chief Operating Officer (Civil Infrastructure), Chip Eng Seng Construction Pte Ltd

They shared their expertise and insights on innovative engineering solutions and sustainable technologies that address critical challenges in coastal protection, carbon emission, climate change, and sustainable construction practices.

The enthusiasm and engagement from participants made this a truly memorable and impactful event!
