Chng Ning’s Enriching Experience at SP
Award: PFP Top Student Award 2023
I chose SP because of its engineering reputation and facilities. I enjoyed modules like Intro to Technical Solutions and memorable events like LEAP camp. I feel one way that SP prepares you to be work-ready is firstly working with people from around the world. In poly, I met many people from all around the world, some local and some international students. You get to meet with new people and learn to work with them as well as getting exposed to new perspectives and way of solving problems.
There were definitely many lecturers that greatly impacted my journey in SP, they have made my journey in SP all the more enjoyable and fun. Ms Jin Ye was one of the lecturers that made FIT such a fun module to learn as her way of teaching was always fun and simple to understand. She was also a teacher who made the effort to make sure that us students understood the knowledge that we were being taught and would stay back to teach us if we needed further explanation. Some teachers like Ms. Joosa challenged us to look deeper into the problems of Singapore public transport and how we could create a problem statement with it for our final CA3 project in AEC. Or lecturer like Ms Josephine Yeow who taught us presentation skills as well as conversation skills, although she was strict she cared deeply for the students that she taught and would always be there to give her advice when we needed it.
My advice and tip for peers and juniors would be to cherish PFP friendships, study hard, stay motivated, and take breaks. Really cherish your time in PFP, the friends you make that year will be the ones that will be there with you through the end. In Year 1, the environment is very different and so are the friends you meet. Now in Year 1, I miss my PFP mates a lot as they were the best bunch of people I knew who were genuine and fun people who strived to do the best. Another piece of advice to note is that even though you are in foundation year, still put in the effort to study the content that you are being taught as it will be useful for you in your Year 1 studies. Continue to do your best even in PFP and that momentum will definitely get you through your poly years. Finally never forget, to take breaks as poly life can be hard and a short break always goes a long way.
