The journey began in 2022, a pivotal year for my growth as both a musician and an individual. As a member of the Singapore National Youth Orchestra and SP Vocal Talents, I dedicated myself to my craft, enjoying the process of learning, practising, and performing. My involvement in music at SP and beyond allowed me to develop a deeper understanding of how music connects people and cultures. I looked forward to contributing my skills in music arrangement and composition, hoping to assist my CCA and use what I learned in my academic coursework to benefit the broader community.

In 2023, my musical journey took on new dimensions. Building on the experiences of the past year, I became even more involved in various projects. One of the most exciting developments was the creation of my podcast, “MandoPOPZmeh?”, which started as a project for my Creative Entrepreneurship module. Together with a few passionate group mates, we decided to carry the project beyond the classroom, and it became an opportunity to explore Mandopop in greater depth, a genre I am particularly passionate about. I also took part in Mediacorp’s “Be A Podcastar” competition as one of the Top 10 Finalists, which allowed me to further develop my voice and storytelling skills through podcasting.

Alongside my creative endeavours, I continued to perform with the Singapore National Youth Orchestra, where I participated in school outreach performances and major public concerts at the Esplanade Concert Hall. These experiences were not only musically enriching but also personally rewarding, as they gave me the chance to connect with audiences and share the joy of live orchestral music. Back at SP, I had the privilege of serving as a Core Leader in ACER, a role that has been instrumental in honing my leadership skills. Leading my tribe members and managing various responsibilities in this capacity helped me grow as a person, teaching me the importance of collaboration, resilience, and effective communication. Through these leadership roles, I’ve learned that leadership is not just about guiding others but also about continuous self-improvement.

Looking ahead, I plan to continue contributing to the wider music community through my skills and leadership experiences. While I am eager to keep exploring different areas within music, whether it’s through orchestral performances or educational initiatives, I am equally excited about the leadership opportunities that lie ahead. Having taken on roles in and out of school, I’ve developed a strong sense of responsibility and a desire to inspire others along their musical journeys. My journey is not just about personal achievement; it’s about using the power of music to create connections, spark creativity, and make a positive impact on those around me.

As I move forward, I aim to continue growing as a leader, bringing the lessons I’ve learned through my various experiences to inspire others and contribute to the music community. Whether through performing, teaching, or leading, I strive to make meaningful contributions, always guided by my passion for music and the connections it fosters.

Wisdom/Advice for juniors:

Mistakes are part of the journey. Each one is an opportunity to learn something new. Whether it’s a missed note, a forgotten lyric, or a leadership challenge, embrace failures as stepping stones to success.
