Journey from Singapore Polytechnic to Cambridge University

Liew Zheng Jie (Class of 2017) began his academic journey as a PFP student at Singapore Polytechnic in 2013. His time in the Diploma in Chemical Engineering (DCHE) program provided invaluable experiences and a solid foundation, leading him to pursue a PhD at Cambridge University under the Marie Curie Fellowship.

A pivotal moment was the Plant Design module, where he gained firsthand insight into real-world chemical engineering applications. The supportive environment, dedicated lecturers, and excellent teaching facilities ensured Zheng Jie felt well-supported. Singapore Polytechnic offers numerous opportunities for students to excel according to their strengths.

Beyond academics, the vibrant student life organized by the student chapter was crucial in Zheng Jie's development. The meaningful relationships he formed have endured, providing a strong support network that has been instrumental in navigating research challenges.

Zheng Jie emphasized the importance of a broad knowledge base and skill set, making individuals highly employable across industries. He believes chemical engineering graduates are well-positioned to meet the growing demand for interdisciplinary work. While acknowledging the importance of grades, he stresses finding purpose in one's work, collaborating with peers, and celebrating each other’s successes.
