Organised by Pacific Light and its prominent partners—Defence Collective, SUTD, TP, SGBC, and Frasers Property—the Sustainable Cities Challenge invited tertiary students in Singapore to design, innovate, and reimagine sustainability through landscapes and architecture.

This challenge aims to foster a culture of sustainable design thinking. By envisioning innovative solutions that seamlessly integrate sustainability into urban and architectural marvels, participants can shape our cities’ greener and more sustainable future.

Participants were tasked with basing their proposals on one of three designated properties: Hillview Community Club, Hougang Mall, and Fraser Tower.

Our Diploma in Facilities Management (DFM) students enthusiastically participated in this competition. Over five months, they explored their chosen properties, brainstormed ideas for improvement, and attended workshops and mentoring sessions conducted by subject experts and property owners. Three of our groups advanced to the final round of presentations, showcasing their exceptional work and dedication.

The competition attracted over 30 entries from higher learning institutions across Singapore. Our DFM students’ outstanding efforts were highly recognised by the judges, earning them three top prizes: the winner, second runner-up, and a certificate for achievement. This recognition validates their hard work and performance.

The winning team, consisting of students from the Diploma in Facilities Management, Diploma in Architecture, and Diploma in Banking and Finance, presented their winning project and shared their experiences on stage at the Pacific Light Anniversary Dinner on 18 October 2024.
