In a display of innovation and expertise, a trio from Singapore Polytechnic has soared to remarkable heights at the Huawei ICT Competition 2023-2024. The team, featuring two alumni (Class of 2024) from the Diploma in Applied AI & Analytics (DAAA), Chen Zhuofan and Zachary Chua Zhi En, along with an Aerospace Engineering student Cheong Wai Yu Clement, clinched the coveted Grand Prize at the APAC Final in Jakarta. Their winning streak continued as they bagged first prize at the Global Final in Shenzhen, China.
During the competition, our champions dived into two challenging segments. In the cloud service arena, they engineered a cutting-edge system and cloud architecture for an Office Automation application, powered by Huawei Cloud. In the realm of Artificial Intelligence (AI), they tackled the complex Natural Language Processing (NLP) sequence tagging problem, developing AI models that leveraged sophisticated concepts like Conditional Random Fields (CRF). Their strategic fine-tuning of hyperparameters propelled their performance to new heights.
The Huawei ICT Competition is a global battleground for IT prodigies. This year’s competition was fierce, with over 170,000 students from more than 2,000 colleges and universities worldwide vying for the top spot. The stellar achievement of our Singapore Polytechnic team at the Global Final is a proud moment that not only celebrates their victory but also shines a spotlight on the exceptional talent of Singaporean students on the world stage.
