The SP-SMU APP allows eligible students from the Singapore Polytechnic School of Computing (SP SOC) to take two modules at the School of Computing and Information Systems of the Singapore Management University (SMU) in their final semester at SP (Year-3 Semester-2) in place of two SP School Elective modules. For each completed SMU module, the relevant credits and grades will be mapped to the SP Examination Grading System and reflected in the final transcript of the student’s diploma course.
The modules offered in this programme comprise:
Option 1: Modules offered under the Information Systems programme
Option 2: Modules offered under the Computer Science programme
SP-SMU APP students will study at School of Computing and Information Systems (SCIS), located in the heart of the Civic District. Established in 2003, SMU’s SCIS aims for excellence in fundamental contribution to academic knowledge as well as in creating technology with real-world impact. SCIS faculty comprise several world-class scholars and rising stars in their respective disciplines. SCIS’s research portfolio is also well aligned with Singapore's national initiatives like Smart Nation, Cybersecurity and Urban Management, and includes a number of well-funded projects in SCIS’s focus areas. The school regularly collaborates with many government agencies and leading industry players. Its undergraduate degree programmes prepare students for a fulfilling future that creates powerful value for business and society.
All SoC students who meet SMU’s admission criteria and are enrolled in the following courses:
SP-SMU APP students will take SMU modules in Year-3 Semester-2 of their Diploma course.
SP-SMU APP students will be enrolled in the same classes as SMU’s Year 1 students and will have access to all facilities that are necessary for their learning at SMU’s city campus, offering them a fulfilling experience of university life even before they graduate from their diploma course.
After graduating from SP SoC, SP-SMU APP students will need to apply to SMU if he/she wants to secure a place in a SMU degree programme. If a SP-SMU APP student obtains a minimum grade of “B” under SMU’s grading structure, he/she may be eligible to transfer both the credit and grade for the corresponding SMU modules that they have completed under SP-SMU APP.
Note: Transfer of credit and grade is governed under SMU’s Exemption Policy.
“The SMU Advanced Placement Programme's unique blend of SP and SMU curricula provided me with valuable knowledge, experience, and connections that set me apart from my peers. Participation in the programme gave me an insight into the life in SMU that eventually motivated me to pursue a Bachelor's Degree in Information System at SMU and has been helpful in gaining a headstart in my IT career. I am truly grateful for the opportunity that this programme presented, and I believe it's a programme worth being a part of.”
