EEE team won the Lee Hsien Loong Interactive Digital Media Smart Nation Award on 27 Aug 2024. This Award recognised full-time polytechnic students who have completed IDM projects that will contribute to the Smart Nation initiative by harnessing technology to improve our daily lives in the following four key areas:

• Smart Mobility – creating a more seamless transport experience through new travel options and greater access to real-time transport information;

• Smart Living – improving daily living in our homes through smart devices;

• Smart Health and Wellness – delivering better healthcare services and wellness applications for seniors and citizens through effective use of information technology; and

• Digital Services – improved government operations and service delivery through technology.
  

The primary challenge addressed by EEE’s project was detecting workers who violate safety protocols by neglecting the use of essential PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). Incidents of non-compliance with safety measures can lead to severe consequences, jeopardising both workers’ well-being and work efficiency. An advanced PPE detection system can mitigate these risks and foster a secure working environment. EEE team developed a cutting-edge PPE detection system that leveraged deep learning computer vision algorithm to automatically detect workers who violate PPE safety compliances. This innovative solution addressed a critical problem in the solar industry, ensuring the safety of workers on solar installation sites.

The students were guided by Tan Chee Seng and Ng Yong Thiang. Details of the students are as follows:
