A team of four staff and 45 students from the
SP Optometry (DOPT) participated in the Active Ageing Holistic and Geriatrics Health Screening held on 11-12 March 2023 at the Toa Payoh South Community Club. The event was organised by Active Aging Advocates, a group from the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, which aimed to provide health assessments to Toa Payoh East residents aged 50 and above.
The DOPT team contributed to the event's objective of providing a more holistic understanding of health for the elderly by conducting vision assessments, eye pressure testing for glaucoma assessment, and Amsler Test to screen for age-related macular degeneration. The event attracted a total of 600 participants, with Mr. Saktiandi Supaat, Advisor to Bishan-Toa Payoh Grassroots Organisation, as its guest of honor.
The DOPT team's participation also provided a platform for referrals, enabling timely interventions and recommendations for seniors with declining vision. The team is committed to contributing to the community and is proud to have been a part of such a meaningful event. Their participation in such events aims to promote the importance of eye health and the critical role optometrists play in maintaining good vision and preventing blindness.
