Diploma in Optometry (DOPT) participated in the Active Ageing Advocates health screening, in collaboration with National University of Singapore (NUS) Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine (YLLSoM) from 21 to 22 Oct 2023, at Toa Payoh Central Community Club. The event aimed to provide health assessments to Toa Payoh residents aged 50 and above and was honored to have Dr Ng Eng Hen, Advisor to Bishan-Toa Payoh Grassroots Organisation, as the guest of honor.
DOPT trains optometrists who serves as primary eye care practitioners. Optometrists play a crucial role in the early detection of eye diseases and in the prevention of blindness. As part of our commitment to community engagement and outreach, 60 DOPT students and 4 staff conducted the vision screening for 1000 event participants. Our vision screening encompassed a range of tests, including vision assessment, eye pressure testing for glaucoma assessment, and the Amsler Test to screen for age-related macular degeneration.
Through our collaboration with Active Ageing Advocates and YLLSoM, we were delighted to contribute to the event's overarching goal of promoting a more holistic understanding of health for the elderly.
