SP Optometry students lead vision health initiatives

On 26-27 October 2024, the Diploma in Optometry (DOPT) students took part in a community-focused healthcare initiative which targeted low-income residents near Clementi, providing free eye screenings and promoting vision health. The event was graced by Dr. Tan Wu Meng, MP of Jurong GRC and Senior Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Trade & Industry, and Mdm Rahayu Mahzam, MP of Jurong GRC. Throughout the two days, approximately 130 public members were screened. Students gained hands-on experience in conducting eye exams, identifying common vision issues, and offering basic advice on eye health under the mentorship of experienced optometrists and healthcare professionals.

Germaine Poh, a DOPT Year 2 student leader, shared her experience, “It was rewarding to sharpen my skills while giving back to the community through something I am passionate about.”

The Guide Dogs Singapore Family Day 2024 was held at the Star Vista on 27 October 2024. This event was graced by the Guest of Honour, Mr. Eric Chua, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth & Ministry of Social and Family Development.
