Perfumery & Cosmetic Science (DPCS) students embarked on an overseas trip to Makassar, Indonesia. The aim of the trip was to understand the sustainability efforts on human health and environment by neighbouring regions. The students also presented their conceptualisation ideas on sustainable personal care products in an international conference organised by the Politeknik Negeri Ujung Pandang (PNUP) institution.
During the trip, the students visited government laboratories in Makassar to look at analytical instruments used to test on drugs, food, water and air qualities. They also visited a small business which produces natural skin care products using natural materials such as ginger and turnip, without addition of preservatives.
This exposure trip provided the students with a unique opportunity to learn about sustainability efforts in a different country and to present their ideas to an international audience. It was a great learning experience for the students and helped them to broaden their horizons.
“This trip was a unique opportunity for me to deepen my understanding of the world of science outside SP, particularly in the field of sustainability. I was able to gain valuable insights into the working methods, equipment, and procedures used in commercial laboratories, and learn about the innovative ways researchers are working to improve sustainability.”
