Imagine repurposing raw dough trimmings from dumpling production into a crunchy, flavourful condiment – that's Krunch Up!, one of the food products pitched at the Upcycle Revival Challenge (URC) 2024!
Launched to promote innovation in food waste upcycling, the challenge also aims to build a talent pipeline for the growing food manufacturing sector. Competing against seven teams from the
Diploma in Food Science & Technology (DFST) course, the Krunch Up! team impressed the judges with their creative use of by-products and ability to deliver authentic taste and convenience, clinching the title of 'Grand Winner'!
As the team shares, "Though the journey was tough, the URC was a very intriguing and eye-opening experience, from the start, when we focused on product innovation, to the end, when we explored more of our product’s characteristics. It was truly fulfilling to see our product come to life!"
